Online IBEC Seminar

by Carlos Aleman, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC)

The research of the ” Innovation, Modeling & Engineering in Materials” group in the field of multifunctional materials. Three, different examples of multifunctional systems will be presented: 1) Magnetic electroconductive and self-healing PEDOT:alginate hydrogels for sensing, drug-delivery and energy storage; 2) Self-standing PLA/PEDOT films as artificial muscles, controlled lactate release and selective ion transport; and 3) Permanently polarized hydroxyapatite a biocatalyst for carbon and nitrogen fixation.

Carlos Alemán graduated in Chemistry from the University of Barcelona (Spain). He received his Ph.D. from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) in 1994, where he was promoted to the position of Full Professor of Physical Chemistry. He was postdoctoral researcher at the ETH in Zürich (Switzerland) and visiting professor at the Università di Napoli Federico II (Italy), University of Twente (Holland) and Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). Since 2003 he is the leader of the ‘‘Innovation, Modeling & Engineering in Materials’’ (IMEM) group. His main research interests focus on conducting polymers and biopolymers with biomedical and technological (energy) applications.
