BIST is a private foundation governed by a Board of Trustees composed of nine researchers of international reputation, the seven directors of the BIST Community Centres, four private foundations, and the Government of Catalonia.
The Board of Trustees appoints the Director General, who runs the BIST Institution. The Director General, along with the directors of the centres that constitute BIST, form the Executive Committee, which oversees BIST joint strategy and coordinates with and among the research centres with the support of the Centre’s Managing Directors. The Director General manages a lean BIST Core Team which develops the initiatives adopted by the Board of Trustees. They do so by working together with BIST Community Commissions and working groups, which meet throughout the year to drive the BIST agenda by planning and executing joint activities within and across their respective areas.
