BIST researchers awarded 2019 ERC Consolidator Grants

Two researchers working at BIST centres have been awarded the prestigious 2019 European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grants this month.

The European Research Council announced the most recent winners of the 2019 ERC Consolidator Grants this month. These prestigious grants are awarded to talented scientists who want to consolidate their independence by establishing a research team and continuing to develop a successful research career in Europe.

Among the winners in this round are two researchers working at centres of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST), bringing the total number of ERC grants received by BIST researchers up to 125.

The BIST awardees are:

Marcos García Suero of the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) for a project dedicated to developing new synthetic strategies based on carbines that could solve important synthetic problems in drug discovery and materials.

Samuel Sánchez of the Institute for Bionengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) to study the collective behaviour of self-propelled nanorobots.
