In the BIST Community, we work at the frontier of knowledge, and share the fundamental scientific principles, our research questions and discoveries with society. We aim to offer a diverse picture of who scientist are, while contributing to closing the gender gap that persists in certain disciplines. We also embrace the ethical and societal debates that new discoveries and developments may bring.
Scientific thinking is not exclusive to science professionals—it is a tool for society. From early childhood, humans are naturally driven to explore the world through observation and questioning. The scientific method builds on this curiosity with a structured, evidence-based approach to understanding reality. It encourages us to ask questions, formulate hypotheses, test ideas through experimentation, and revise our understanding based on new evidence. This is why, in the BIST Community, we are committed to promoting scientific literacy and supporting inquiry-based education that reflects the principles of the scientific method—such as argumentation, which helps develop critical thinking: the ability to evaluate different perspectives and question any claim that is not supported by evidence. These skills are essential not only in science but in democratic, informed societies.
Our approach to outreach also stems from our responsibility to make society aware of the cutting-edge research and disruptive innovation that is generated thanks to the public resources invested in science policy.
