BIST Community centres’s society and outreach

The seven BIST Community centres include dedicated communication and outreach offices that ensure transparency and foster public understanding of their scientific activity. Through diverse formats, they engage with audiences across all sectors of society. These efforts aim to enhance scientific literacy in their fields of expertise, provide valuable resources to formal science education, and inspire the next generation of scientists.

Furthermore, in collaboration with Fundació Catalunya-La Pedrera, a BIST Institutional Board Member, the BIST Community offers exceptional opportunities for talented young students passionate about science.

Fostering understanding of science and how science works

BIST promotes scientific literacy by supporting learning not only of science, but also about how science works—encouraging critical thinking, informed citizenship, and future scientific vocations.

BIST recognises the persistent gender biases and stereotypes that often discourage girls and young women from pursuing STEM. Since 2019, it has addressed these challenges through the #científiques initiative, developed in collaboration with FCRI to inspire and empower future generations.

Additionally, BIST ensures that the gender perspective is a central consideration in all its communication and outreach activities, striving for inclusivity and balanced representation.
