Gate2Brain, a spin-off from IRB Barcelona, the University of Barcelona, and the Sant Joan de Déu research Institute devoted to the development of peptide-based delivery technologies for central nervous system diseases, has announced a strategic partnership with Shilpa Biocare Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Shilpa Medicare Limited.

A strategic milestone for Gate2Brain

Shilpa Biocare has become a strategic shareholder in Gate2Brain through a €7 million investment corresponding to a 30.4% equity stake. The partnership represents a major milestone for Gate2Brain and the largest investment raised by the company to date, underscoring the company’s growth and progress in less than six years since its foundation.

G2B-002, Gate2Brain’s lead candidate, is one of the key focuses of the partnership. It is a first-in-class therapeutic candidate for the treatment of aggressive pediatric and adult brain tumours. G2B-002 has received Orphan Drug Designation from both the FDA and EMA.

G2B-002 is based on MiniAp4, Gate2Brain’s proprietary peptide shuttle designed to facilitate drug delivery across the blood-brain barrier, one of the major challenges in diseases of the central nervous system (CNS). Preclinical studies have demonstrated improved drug delivery to the brain and reduced side effects in pediatric brain tumours.

The partnership brings together Gate2Brain’s technology and Shilpa’s expertise in manufacturing, CMC development, and regulatory strategy. Together, the companies aim to accelerate the development of G2B-002 while supporting the expansion of the company’s technology platform into additional therapeutic areas and CNS applications.

This agreement marks a new chapter in the program’s development. It also reinforces Gate2Brain’s mission to address critical unmet medical needs in pediatric brain cancer and other central nervous system disorders, with the goal of expanding treatment options for patients and their families.

“Gate2Brain acknowledges the continued support of its institutional partners, external advisors, investors, and business angels, whose confidence and commitment have played a key role in advancing the company’s mission and technology platform”, said Dr. Meritxell Teixidó, Gate2Brain’s CEO & CSO and an IRB Barcelona alumna.
