The Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology is saddened to hear of the passing of Pere Mir, Founder of the Fundació Privada Cellex.
Pere Mir was an inspiration and great influence to many, including BIST. In 2003 he founded the Cellex Foundation, which has been used to make generous contributions to a multitude of ambitious scientific projects. His funding has brought some of Catalonia’s best scientific institutions to where they are today and has left an immense impression on the research landscape of this country. He will not be forgotten.
As well as being on the board of trustees of BIST, the Fundació Privada Cellex also sponsors two of the BIST research centres: the Institute of Photonic Science (ICFO) and the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ).
