Keynote Speech: Overview of quantum technologies in Europe and in the world

The opening keynote speech of the 2021 BIST Conference will be given by Professor Ignacio Cirac, Director and Scientific Member of the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics. He will present the current status of quantum technologies in Europe and globally.

Prof. Cirac was born on October 11, 1965 in Manresa, Spain. He graduated in theoretical physics from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (1988), and received his PhD in Physics in 1991 from the same. He has held positions as Professor in the Department of Applied Physics at the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha (1991-1996) and as Research Associate at the Joint Institute for Laboratory Astrophysics at the University of Colorado (1993-1994). From 1996 to 2001, Prof. Cirac was Professor at the Institute for Theoretical Physics at the Leopold Franzens University in Innsbruck. In 2001, he became Director and Scientific Member of the Max Planck Institut of Quantum Optics and Honorary Professor at the Technical University of Munich (since 2002).
