By September 10, 2018ICIQ

Professor Miquel A. Pericàs, Director of the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ), one of the seven BIST centres, recently published an editorial on the history of ICIQ for a joint issue of the European Journal of Organic Chemistry and the European Journal of Inorganic Chemistry.

The editorial is Professor Pericàs’ personal account of the history of ICIQ, from June 2000 when the idea for establishing a new research centre devoted to chemistry was proposed to him by Professor Andreu Mas-Colell, now the President of BIST, up to present day and the scientific future of ICIQ, which focuses on their Starting Career Programme to train young people to become prepared and excellent researchers.

With only 15 years under its belt, ICIQ has reached an enviable and globally competitive position. In terms of research excellence and impact, ICIQ has received 16 ERC grants (2 Advanced, 2 Consolidator, 5 Starting, and 7 Proof of Concept), has published 1879 papers, and has reached an h-index of 127. It has a total of 344 staff members, with 42% of international researchers, and has attracted a number of highly talented group leaders over the years who have greatly impacted the level of research excellence we see at ICIQ today.
