On Tuesday, ICFO’s Director Lluis Torner was honoured at the National Research Award Ceremony (Premis Nacionals de Recerca) organized by the Foundation for Research and Innovation of Catalonia (FCRi) and the Government of Catalonia. The ceremony, which took place at the Teatre Nacional de Catalonia, presented five awards that represent the highest distinctions in the field of research in Catalonia. With the awards, the government, via the FCRi, promotes the social recognition of outstanding researchers, patrons, companies and journalists.

The President of the Government of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, the Minister for Business and Enterprise, Jordi Baiget, the actress, Silvia Bel, and the President of the Foundation for Research and Innovation of Catalonia Antoni Esteve, presented Lluis Torner with the National Senior Research Award, which specifically recognizes a significant contribution to scientific progress on an international scale – in human and social, life and health, engineering, technology or experimental sciences. Lluis Torner dedicated the prize to all ICFOnians and, especially, to the generous support of Dr. Pere Mir and his foundation.

More information and a list of other prize winners can be found on the ICFO website.
