Do you want to continue improving as a PreDoc researcher and excel at your PhD?

The course How to succeed in your PhD [II] for doctoral students has been exclusively designed by Kate Mahoney and the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) using VITAE’s framework. It will offer you the opportunity to focus on developing competences for successful self-management and development during the doctorate.

To empower participants to learn about themselves and the skills needed to maintain momentum during the middle years of their PhD. The course is designed to inspire, challenge and embed knowledge through providing an experiential learning environment both online and face to face.

The course is comprised of 3 sessions: two online and one at BIST offices



  • Dr Katy R Mahoney: professional development coach specialized in researcher performance
  • Two mentors will also participate in the course

12:15 – 13:45: Introduction to SCAMPER as a lateral thinking and problem-solving method 11:30 – 12:30: What does this mean for us working together? 12:20 – 13:30: Activity “Energy Island”
13:30 – 14:45: Lunch
14:45 – 15:30: “Energy Island” continuation
15:30 – 16:00: “Energy Island” review
16:00 – 16:20: Break
16:20 – 17:30: What next? Building your career
17:30 – 18:15: Final review

All sessions need to be attended in order to receive a certificate
