Join us in this week of innovation and learn the basics to help you bring your research to market. The programme includes four days of webinars and workshops focused on tech transfer and the process from lab to market, toped up with a full-day hackathon on day 5 that will showcase challenges related to graphene technologies. Put in practice everything you learnt while solving a global challenge.

This course is oriented to postdocs or any researcher with interest in tech transfer and innovation.

Programme

Please, take into account that participants must attend the webinar to be eligible to attend the following workshop (both happening the same morning). Webinars have no limit of participants, but each workshop has only 30 seats available. The selection of participants will be made on a first come first served basis. All the sessions will be held online, except the Graphene Hackathon on Friday (venue: Parc Científic de Barcelona). The Hackathon has also only 30 spots available. If you want to participate, you must choose a challenge (following question). It is strongly recommended to have attended the previous sessions to make the most of the Hackathon.

  • How to identify opportunities for innovation
  • Traits of the innovator and stoppers
  • Introduction to the concept of “start-up”
  • How to frame an opportunity for innovation
  • Introduction to the Business Model Canvas tool and how to use it
11:00h – 13:00h WORKSHOP 1: Describing a business model
Case study: Innitius

Participants will review the case and describe the business model of the company on a business model canvas.

9:30h – 10:30h WEBINAR 2: Researching the market: supply chain, market dynamics and trends, and competitive environment
  • Searching for problem/solution fit

  • Overview of the IRL and funding process
  • What is the right funding source for your stage? Sources of funding and how they work
  • Pros and cons: Angels, VCs, crowdfunding, accelerators
11:00h – 13:00h WORKSHOP 3: The corporate innovation process
Iberdrola’s “Start-up Challenge: cleaning photovoltaic panels”

Participants will assess a start-up from the point of view of a corporation’s department of innovation in order to understand the criteria used by their analysts and how they perceive start-ups’ proposals.

  • The key elements of a good technology pitch
  • Pitching materials: pitch deck and the business plan
11:00h – 13:00h WORKSHOP 4: Pitching
Case study: Innitius

The teams will have to prepare and do their pitch for one of the following audiences: a corporate innovation analyst, a venture capital company, or a potential CEO for the company.
