Join us for BIST Career Week to prepare for your future! The week will consist of five days packed with morning workshops and afternoon round tables, with inspiring speakers from different backgrounds, trajectories, and jobs.
This year’s round tables will be focused on a variety of career possibilities including scientific group leadership, science communication, pharma and industry, data science, and consultancy. Wherever your next move may be (inside or outside academia!), the BIST Career Week is for you.
Round tables are a great opportunity to meet people working in different jobs and sectors. Join us and learn what they did and how is a normal day in their jobs. All related to science, but all different: come and get inspired!

Silvia Donoso López holds a PhD in Social Anthropology, a Master in Gender and Equality Policies between Women and Men and specialization studies on Mainstreaming Gender Equality in EC Development Cooperation from the International Training Center (EC/ILO). She has a wide experience in Latin America where she has worked as a senior consultant on gender and development policies for different international organisms including European Commission, UNWomen or Inter-American Development Bank. She has also worked as a consultant in gender and diversity for some public administrations, enterprises and social organizations, formulating and monitoring Equality Public Policies between Women and Men and assessing the formulation of Equality Plans on the labor field. She has carried out research on institutional violence against women in Spain and Guatemala, on gender violence and feminicide, on women and labour market and on women and new kinship relations, and is author of numerous articles about these subjects. Nowadays she is working for the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM/CSIC)

Alexis Roig currently serves as CEO of SciTech DiploHub, the Barcelona Science and Technology Diplomacy Hub, a pioneering non-profit public-private partnership that represents Barcelona’s science, technology, higher education, and innovation ecosystem abroad. He is also a Professor at the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST), Associate Researcher at the Barcelona Centre for International Relations (CIDOB), Associate Professor of Pompeu Fabra University and the Barcelona Institute of International Studies (IBEI), Commissioner for International Affairs of the Barcelona Metropolitan Region strategic plan, and has over 10 years’ experience as Senior Advisor on Science Diplomacy for ministries of Foreign Affairs, Science, Research, and Education across Asia, Europe and Latin America. Mr. Roig is founder and member of the board of numerous nonprofits and think tanks on Public Diplomacy, Science Advice, and Innovation Policy. He serves as president of the Catalan Institute of China; editorial board member of the publication El M n De Dem ; member of the Council of Catalonia Abroad, the advisory body on foreign affairs and diaspora diplomacy of the Government of Catalonia; member of the advisory board of Digital Future Society, think tank supported by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation of the Government of Spain focused on the governance of emerging digital technologies; member of the International Network for Government Science Advice of the International Science Council (ISC); and board member of the Space and Aerospace Commission of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce.

Ilda obtained her Bachelor degree in Biotechnology and a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology at the University of Milan-Bicocca and University of Milan, respectively. Prior to the PhD she worked as a pre-doctoral fellow at the San Raffaele Scientific Institute in the Stem Cells and Neurogenesis Unit with a main focus on Parkinson’s disease. Funded by the FP7 Marie Curie European Research and Innovation grant, Ilda completed her Ph.D. in Biomedicine in the Stem Cells and Regeneration group at the Centre for Genomic Regulation in Barcelona, working on the mechanisms controlling pluripotent stem cells. Moved by a strong interest in merging research with business initiatives she completed an MBA program and she contributes to the valuation of biotech company proposals within the Barcelona start-up ecosystem. Currently, Ilda is Consultant at Alira Health where she supports pharma and biotech companies to accelerate innovation, and improve outcomes for patients around the world.

Lucas Sanchez holds a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology and has a dilated research experience working on the development of vaccines against Third World Diseases at the National Center of Biotechnology (Spain) and Yale School of Medicine (USA). He is a widely recognized science communicator that has collaborated with different newspapers (Público, El País), radios (Radio Nacional de España), dissemination platforms (Naukas), blogs (Sonicando), universities (UPV, UPB and UIMP) and science museums. Nowadays he is the co-founder and Director of Scienseed, a science communication agency.
