Getting ready to give your science a social impact: Becoming a Scientific Expert in Public Policy and Consulting
This webinar offers the chance to learn about the diverse experience of three experts with scientific careers in the area of Consulting and Public Policy. Dr Joan Casals, Dr Sonia Veiga and Dr Ana Valdivia will share their own career paths, and give their insights on the spectrum of roles that are offered in this branch of consulting.
How can you leverage your scientific background and bring insights for strategic thinking in consultancy and/for public policy? My background is on Health and Life-Sciences Research, with a PhD in Biomedicine. After working in academic and clinical environments, I accepted SIRIS challenge to use my insight at a higher level. Background
PhD in Chemical Sciences (UB, 2005) and pianist, he is founding partner at Estratègia MomentumCO, SL, where he currently develops his professional activities. He started his professional career at Crystax, a spin-off company based on the Barcelona Scientific Park, as a scientific project manager and CEO assistant. After one year and a half, he moved to the consulting sector, first at PricewaterhouseCoopers Spain, and then at Management Momentum, where he spent six years working as a strategic and organizational consultant before founding Estratègia MomentumCO. SL. Since 2009 he has developed several projects related to institutional or sectorial strategy definition, identification of organizational improvements, analysis of internal processes, or monitoring of action plans execution. Since 2012 he is also responsible for the management of Fundació Barcelona Respiratory Network (BRN), an organization which is oriented to enhance research in respiratory health. - Dra Ana Valdivia, Data Scientist at Trilateral Research [Web]
Background
Ana Valdivia has a PhD in Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing (University of Granada, 2019). She currently works at Trilateral Research as a Data Scientist, where she develops projects in cross-disciplinary teams to transform society into a better place. She collaborates in other research projects related with fairness, accountability, and transparency, as well as civic technologies for democratic participation and design justice. In 2018, she was awarded by the University of Chicago under the Data Science for Social Good Fellowship program, in which she collaborated with the Ministry of Education of El Salvador to identify factors affecting school dropouts.
