Call open: BIST-UPF Master of Multidisciplinary Research in Experimental Sciences

The Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) are now accepting applications for the 2020/2021 edition of the Master of Multidisciplinary Research in Experimental Sciences.

The Master of Multidisciplinary Research in Experimental Sciences (MMRES) is a joint academic programme of the Department of Experimental and Health Sciences of UPF (DCEXS, UPF) and the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST). The programme offers highly flexible and personalized hands-on research training in a multidisciplinary research environment.

In addition to the research aspect, the programme also develops talented scientists through experiential training in professional skills such as scientific communication, project management, responsible research and innovation.

MMRES alumni have gone on to pursue PhD studies or other research positions at renowned local and international institutions including the Vienna Biocenter in Austria, EPFL Lausanne and ETH Zurich in Switzerland, the Heriot-Watt University of Edinburgh, UTN Buenos Aires in Argentina, Imperial College London in the United Kingdom, the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in Berlin, Germany, the Department of Experimental and Health Sciences at UPF in Barcelona, Spain, and the BIST centres in Catalonia (ICIQ, ICN2, IRB Barcelona, and CRG).

The institutes participating in the programme are the following, with each accepting students for their major and minor projects within the master:

• Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC)
• The Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO)
• Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ)
• Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2)
• Institute for High Energy Physics (IFAE)
• Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona)
• Department of Experimental and Health Sciences (DCEXS)

Applications for the 2020/2021 edition of the master will be accepted in two calls:

First call for applications:

Applications accepted Dec. 9, 2019 – Mar. 1, 2020
Decisions published Apr. 3, 2020
Deadline for reservation fee: Apr. 14, 2020
Programme start: Sept. 2020

Second call for applications:

Applications accepted Mar. 2, 2020 – Apr. 30, 2020
Decisions published Jun. 5, 2020
Deadline for reservation fee: Jun. 12, 2020
Programme start: Sept. 2020
