The Graphene 2020 Conference dedicated to graphene and 2D materials technology took place this week, from October 19-23. Held virtually, this year’s edition offered five days of plenary talks, parallel workshops, PhD and poster sessions, an industrial forum and an exhibition. The Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST), together with two of its centres (ICN2 and ICFO) had a booth under GraphCAT umbrella (a FEDER project).

The Graphene 2020 Conference, this year’s edition of the largest international conference on graphene and 2D materials, was held online from October 19-23. Thanks to a professional virtual platform, participants were able to move throughout a virtual venue to attend scientific presentations, visit the industrial exposition, and take part in the poster sessions. The event was organised by the Phantom Foundation in collaboration with many research entities including Université Grenoble Alpes, Université Claude Bernard, CNRS, UC Louvain, ICN2, ICREA, Technische Universität Dresden, Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, and Grenoble INP.

Recent advances in 2D materials technologies were discussed throughout more than 30 plenary presentations (including keynote and invited talks), two full days of parallel workshops, and a day dedicated to PhD students’ presentations, as well as many posters. All aspects of this multidisciplinary research were touched on, from the growth and synthesis methods of the materials, to the modeling and theoretical interpretation of their behaviour, to exploration techniques (such as microscopy and spectroscopy), to the applications of 2D materials to electronics, medicine, quantum transport, etc.

In order to promote the interaction between researchers and industry professionals, the event included an industrial forum and an exhibition, where virtual booths were set up for attendees to visit. BIST took part in the exhibition through sharing a stand with ICN2 and ICFO, under the umbrella of GraphCAT, a project financed by FEDER.

The ICN2 and ICFO also took an active role in organising the conference, as well as giving talks and presenting posters.
