The Barcelona Insitute of Science and Technology (BIST) is one of the sponsors of the Conference on methods and applications in the frontier between MX and CryoEM happening this week in Barcelona.
Electron microscopy, including cryo electron micrsocopy (CryoEM), is among the research priorities of BIST. The objective of this 3-day conference, organized by the Structural Biology Unit (SBU) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), is to build capacity in Catalonia in methods and applications in the area of cryo electron microscopy. This is something BIST considers to be an essential step in creating expertise in the scientific landscape of Catalonia. Several researchers from the BIST centres are attending the conference.
As described on the conference website, the life sciences are currently undergoing a revolution with the extension of single particle cryo electron microscopy to atomic resolution, previously the realm of macromolecular crystallography (MX). Both CryoEM and MX methods are rapidly evolving, blending to rise to the new challenges. This conference will be timely, joining developments in the frontier of MX and CryoEM, with applications in Biomedicine.
