The first course, “Self-analysis and making career choices” was led by Sarah Blackford, PhD Career Consultant, and helped participants become aware of their skills, interests, and values, and how to link this information to the process of career decision making. Participants, which consisted of PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, had the opportunity to connect with others that share the same interests and concerns, to share ideas and advice, to learn about the many career paths available to trained scientists, and to chat one-on-one with a career consultant.

The second course, “The tools you need to get the job you want”, is a two day workshop aimed at BIST PhD students and postdocs that will offer participants tools to explore professional careers beyond Academia. Project management and business entrepreneurship are two of the areas explored in the workshop with interaction with professionals that have already made the transition from Academia. Participants will get information from Barcelona Activa on available resources dedicated to guide professional transitions and an overview of the technological professional sector.

Interested participants are encouraged to speak to the human resources departments at their BIST centres.
