The Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) is organizing a one-day workshop on “Detector Technologies for High Energy Physics”, taking place on Friday July 12th 2019. The goal of the event, which will be hosted at BIST Headquarters in Barcelona, is to explore novel technologies from the areas of Material Science and Nanotechnology that can make a disruptive impact on High Energy Physics instrumentation, sparking collaborations between different groups working on detector technology and related topics. The workshop is coordinated by Dmitri Efetov (ICFO), Sebastian Grinstein (IFAE), Thorsten Lux (IFAE) and Klaas-Jan Tielrooij (ICN2).
The programme will feature several main talks contributed by the participating BIST institutes, starting with the description of experimental techniques currently exploited by the high energy physics community, from accelerator based experiments (ATLAS at CERN’s LHC) to gravitational waves detectors (VIRGO). This will be followed by presentations of detector schemes based on new emerging materials, such as 2D materials. The workshop will be closed by a discussion session and some drinks.
Attending the workshop is free of charge. Lunch will be provided. If you are interested in attending, please sign up online here.
If you are interested in actively participating with an oral contribution, we encourage you to contact one of the organizers.
