BIST President Andreu Mas-Colell to receive 2017 Erasmus Medal

Andreu Mas-Colell, President of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology, will be the recipient of the 2017 Erasmus Medal for his lifetime contribution to scholarship in Economics.

The President of the Academia Europaea (Academy of Europe), Sierd Cloetingh, recently wrote in a letter to the wider community of the Academia Europaea about the challenges and celebrations he expects in 2017. Among other announcements, he explained that Andreu Mas-Colell, one of the world’s leading economists, will be presented with the 2017 Erasmus Medal at the joint AE-ALLEA-HAS-YAE conference on Sustainability and Resilience in Budapest in September of this year.

The Erasmus Medal is the most prestigious award given by the Academia Europaea. It is awarded each year on the recommendation of the Council, to a scholar who has maintained an outstanding level of international scholarship and recognition by peers. The recipient of the medal is also invited to present the annual Erasmus Lecture, which is consequently made public.

Andreu Mas-Colell will receive the 2017 Erasmus Medal for his lifetime contribution to scholarship in Economics, both here in Europe and internationally and will give the Erasmus Lecture on September 5th in Budapest.
